1998- 2002 ~ Treasure & Officer of the American Chesapeake Club
In 1998, when running for Treasure & Officer of the American Chesapeake Club we were asked by the nominating committee to outline the issues facing the American Chesapeake Club and they still hold true today...
"I believe that there are four critical challenges facing the ACC Board and membership as we enter the new millennium. First, we need to foster the unique nature of our breed through education and by encouraging quality breeding programs, which balance retrieving instinct and conformation to the breed standard. We must protect against the diversion of the field and conformation lines so prevalent in Labradors and Golden Retrievers. Second, we need increased cooperation and support from membership on health related issues. Only through better breeding practices made possible by open communications and sharing of information can we hope to reduce hereditary health problems in Chesapeakes. Our third challenge is to maintain the enthusiasm and momentum surrounding the ACC Rescue Network. With an every growing number of Chesapeakes turning up in shelters we need a strong well-organized network to place them in appropriate homes. Finally, I would like to see a renewed emphasis on professionalism and common courtesy both within the Board and the ACC community at large. Despite our personal differences we all share a common interest in promoting and protecting our Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Only through cooperation, mutual respect and focus on our common goals will we be able to care for the future of our breed."
